How to tie the cats whiskers

Hook: Size 10- 4 longshank
Thread: White
Tail: White marabou
Body: Fluorescent lime green chenille
Wing: White marabou
Eyes: Silver chain bead or metal dumbbell eyes

Tools
· Vice
· Sharp scissors
· Whip finish tool
· Bobbin holder

Techniques
· Tying in weighted eyes
· Winging
· Whip finish

Fix the hook upside down in the vice and run on a solid bed of tying thread just behind the hook eye. Tying the eyes upside down means they’re not in the way when tying in the wing later.

Take a joined pair of chain beads cut from a length with a pair of pliers. Secure the beads to the underside of the hook with figure-eight turns of tying thread. After completing this step, turn the hook around in the vice as in step 3

With the eyes secured in place run the tying thread down to the bend in tight turns. Take a generous pinch of white marabou and catch it in as a tail. Allow the waste ends to lie along the shank.

Cover the waste ends of the marabou with close turns of thread to build an even base for the body. With the thread returned to the tail base catch in a length of fluo green chenille by a short section of exposed core.

Run the thread up to the bead chain eyes before winding the chenille over the shank in close turns. Ensure that no gaps are left.

Secure the loose end of the chenille with tying thread and remove the excess. Next, attach a generous pinch of white marabou just behind the hook eye to form the wing.

Pinch off any marabou fibres that protrude past the tail so that they are level. Trim away any excess marabou around the eyes and build a neat head with tying thread.

Cast off the thread with a whip finish before running a drop of superglue into the thread wraps around the bead eyes.
